Ben J. Raia
I am a born and raised Texan. I was born in Houston, Texas. I grew up in Spring Branch. I attended Pine Shadows Elementary, Spring Woods Middle School, and Spring Woods High School. While growing up, I was involved in baseball, Cub Scouts, and the Spring Branch Boys Choir.
After graduating high school in 1996, I attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. While at Texas A&M, I was involved in leadership positions within Howdy Camp, Fish Camp and other student activity organizations. I graduated in December of 2000 with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on small business and entrepreneurial ventures.
After my graduation from Texas A&M, I worked at my family’s restaurant, D’Amico’s Italian Market and Café, in Houston, Texas, for four and a half years as a manager.
In the summer of 2004, I made the decision to attend law school. I began attending South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, in January of 2005. I graduated in December of 2005 after taking classes in family law, probate, and working at the South Texas College of Law General Civil Clinic, the law school’s pro bono and public access to justice program.
After graduation from law school, I began studying for the bar exam. While studying for the Bar, I assisted my family open another restaurant on Washington Avenue in Houston, Texas, named Raia’s Italian Market, which opened in July of 2008.
Taking the bar exam in February of 2008, I did not receive the results until the beginning of the following May. While waiting for the results, I assisted the South Texas College of Law General Civil Clinic researching the representation of individuals involved in the FLDS situation in central Texas and clerked for a fellow attorney who focused on family law, probate, and juvenile cases.
In May of 2008, the whirlwind began in my life. In April of 2007, I proposed to my beautiful wife and the wedding was scheduled for May 3, 2008. I learned of the Bar exam results on May 1, 2008. I passed the Bar exam, so the weekend was a two-fold celebration. During my honeymoon, I learned that I was hired by Sheri Y. Dean & Associates. What a blessing!
Beginning in May of 2008, I was the associate attorney at Sheri Y. Dean & Associates, focusing on family law, probate, and Social Security benefits matters. While at Sheri Y. Dean & Associates, I was part of three jury trials, an invaluable experience to prepare me for the future.
In 2010, Marianna and I learned that we would be parents of a beautiful, little girl.
In June of 2011, Marianna and I became members of Houston’s First Baptist Church. At church, we have been involved in multiple Sunday school classes and Bible studies. Currently, we are members of the Communitas Sunday school class focusing on couples who have been married one to three years.
In August of 2010, Sheri Y. Dean and I formed a partnership, Dean & Raia, Attorneys at Law.
In September of 2010, I took over the partnership and began Ben J. Raia & Associates. We continue to focus on family law, probate matters, and Social Security benefits matters.
